Contraponto

In musical terms, counterpoint is the art of combining independent melodies according to rules of consonance and tension. Similarly, in the series by Fabiana Preti, the composition of small-format versions of languages developed in other series creates rhythm, accentuation, and pause, incorporating concepts such as the module and the interrelation among the works.

The groupings function like expanded scores, in which each painting could be understood as a measure or a voice. By breaking down these “measures” or “voices” into compositions that can be rearranged, Preti introduces a playful dimension into her artistic investigation. Each change in the placement of the paintings also alters the collective arrangement. The works coexist within open compositions that can be modified, remixed, and tensioned in different ways, expanding the field of visual perception and interpretation.
