Clarividente
In Clarividente, Fabiana Preti uses minimal embroidery stitches arranged in regular grids, displacing them from their narrative or ornamental associations and reducing them to their essentials, thereby gaining symbolic density through an exercise in restraint. The application of the material onto voile introduces transparency and instability to the ground of the work, ensuring that the pieces never fully close in on themselves: light, the wall, and shadow pass through them. This porosity directly echoes the title of the series, suggesting a vision that is neither direct nor total, but mediated, subtle, and intuitive.
In the same sense, the stretcher frames function as an extension of the work. The application of color onto the wood creates a transitional field between the exterior and the interior of the canvas, reinforcing the idea of a threshold. Preti approaches looking as a sensitive and temporal experience, closer to listening than to evidence—clairvoyance understood as a state of expanded attention.
